Do you have to invite shower guests to the wedding if it is a destination wedding?

My friend is throwing me a shower and inviting friends from high school that I know would not be able to attend my destination wedding (near his family). Do I need to send them invitations because they were invited to the shower? I know that is the polite thing to do usually but are the rules different for a destination wedding?

The rules aren't different just because the wedding is going to be held away from home.

A guests ability to attend the wedding has no bearing on their invitation to the shower -- if you would not or do not invite them to the wedding, they should not be invited to your bridal shower.

The rules are the same for a destination wedding.

First figure out who is invited to the wedding, then you can use THAT list to invite people to the shower. If they arent close enough friends or you would feel uncomfortable inviting them to your wedding (local or destination) then dont invite them to the shower either.

Those who are being invited to the wedding should be invited to the shower. It is no different for a destination wedding. If there is no wedding invitation there is no shower invitation. It make you look like a grub and like you just want to collect the gifts.

It's never appropriate to invite guests to the shower and not the wedding. Whatever the actual reasons, it makes it look like a gift grab.
